I have always had a love for nails. When I was a little girl I always filed and painted my nails. When I was older I went to see a lady who did nails and I thought I would try gel nails. She loved my hands and nail beds and asked that I be a hand model for her for the Contessa's. For those of you who have never heard of the Contessa's, it's mainly a competition for hair stylists in Toronto, however they do have a makeup and nail category as well. Long story short, she placed in her categories and I loved the whole experinece and decided to become a Nail Technician myself.
That was in 1998. Since then, I have worked in a couple of small nails only salons as well as a couple of large full service spas and salons. I find doing nails is so relaxing. The atmosphere is relaxing with the warm sourroundings, music and wonderful clients you meet. It's not stressful and I'm always happy. I really look forward to seeing my clients and what news they have to tell since our last visit.
Being a Nail Tech, I specialize in hand and foot treatments. In a summary: Manicures, Pedicures, Gel Nails and Nail Art. Becuase I specialize in these areas, my training has been extensive in those categories and I'm still learning. I attend one course per year but strive for three. I plan on entering nail competitions in the future and will be requiring a hand model.
My Advanced Nail Technician Certificiation taught me more advanced knowledge on sterilization, nail diseases/disorders as well as how to service clients with auto-immune disorders. I am proud to say I'm the first in Ontario to achive this certification status, and the only Nail Technician in Peterborough to offer these services.
When I'm not doing nails, I'm reading industry magazines, keeping up with the latest trends and styles, checking out industry websites, courses and chatting it up with other nail techs. You could say I work, sleep and breathe nails. What can I say, I love what I do. I hope you do to.
